The first axis
Concepts in weather conditions

An overview of the history of the establishment of the Meteorological Authority in 1923 and the number of its affiliated stations in Basra Governorate.
And some concepts and terminology related to weather conditions, such as the distinction between low and high air, their relationship to wind direction, and the difference between cold and hot air fronts and their causes.
Description of dust storms and thunderstorms, their differences from hurricanes, and the five degrees of hurricanes, which start at 119 km/h in the first degree, up to 250 km/h, strong and destructive winds, and earthquakes, and how they are measured on the 9-degree Richter scale, which classified them into imperceptible earthquakes that animals cannot feel, only to degrees of destructive earthquakes. What happened in neighboring countries, the most dangerous types of clouds, which are known as cumulus clouds, and many concepts in weather conditions.

Iraq loses 40 thousand dunums annually, and thus the loss of livestock, the migration of residents of agricultural lands, the disappearance of vegetation cover, and the encroachment of sand dunes and salt tongues, which caused damage to even archaeological areas in Iraq. The effect of rising temperatures affects Livestock, agricultural crops and the national economy
The role of the General Authority for Meteorology in issuing forecasts through weather bulletins and warnings regarding rising temperatures, the most important of which is a change in climate and its negative impact on human health and the country’s economy, including livestock, fish, water resources, and others. To form an operations room and prepare an emergency plan in coordination with the relevant authorities

The role of weather forecasting with government facilities and state departments

Preparing weather bulletins that are relied upon as an official source in air and sea navigation. The extent of the seriousness and accuracy of the information contained therein, which results in financial and economic returns for a country. Determining aircraft routes does not happen except after reviewing the weather forecast. The reputation of international airports is linked to the accuracy of their weather forecasts for the safety and smooth flow of air traffic as well as maritime navigation. In addition to the approval of all countries in performing their work, whether health, service, or agricultural institutions, to issue weather forecasts.
The workshop included readings of a number of weather maps and displaying a number of video clips and satellite images that illustrate various weather conditions.
The symposium was attended by a number of teachers and assistants to the dean for scientific and administrative affairs. In conclusion, the efforts of the lecturers from the Weather Authority were appreciated, as the head of the Life Sciences Department, Dr. Imad Youssef Awad, handed over certificates of appreciation to them, with gratitude for their attendance.
