The College of Education for Pure Sciences is one of the colleges of the University of Basra, which emerged from the College of Education, which was established in 1975 in the city of Basra to participate with the rest of the colleges in performing the mission of university education, facing the increasing demand of Iraqi youth for higher education and filling the large shortage of secondary educational cadres in the province of Basra. in particular and Iraq in general. Admission to the college is subject to the Central Admission Scheme for Colleges of Education in Iraqi universities. Since its establishment, the college has worked to implement the slogan (the university in the service of society) with its openings to educational and industrial institutions.

The College of Education for Pure Sciences works hard to serve and care for the most important element in the academic process, which is the student, starting from creating a university and educational environment that works on refining and developing the integrated personality, leading to development and innovation in the various departments of the college in terms of curricula, teaching methods and programs provided, in addition to other programs and activities. . The college publishes a scientific journal under the name (Basra Research Journal/Al-Omayyat), which publishes the research of the teaching staff from inside and outside the college. Postgraduate studies (Master's and PhD) have been opened in five of the college's departments: Life Sciences, Mathematics and Chemistry

and physics and computer. The duration of study in the college is four years, and it follows the annual system of teaching. The college grants a bachelor’s degree in the main specializations in it according to the scientific departments
