The College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basrah  organized a scientific lecture entitled (Coumarin compounds, their preparation and derivatives)
The lecture, which was moderated by Ayat Adel Ashour, included
Coumarin compounds or 2H-Chromen-2-one is an aromatic organic chemical compound with the chemical formula C9H6O2. It can be placed in the benzopyrone chemical class and is considered a lactone.
Coumarins are prepared in several ways
And the preparation of coumarin compounds from the reaction of Aldehydes with Diethylmalonate
It can be prepared in the traditional ways or by using the microwave. It was prepared by Knoevenagel condensation from the reaction of Salicylaldehyde with diethylmalonate in ethanol as a solvent and the addition of Piperidine and acetic acid as catalysts for the reaction.
And the preparation of coumarin compounds from the reaction of Aldehydes with Meldrum's
The use of Meldrum's acid in coumarin synthesis reactions. It was prepared from the reaction of Salicylaldehyde derivatives with Meldrum's Acide.

Other methods have been used to prepare coumarin compounds. Where I attended from the Perkin reaction.
