The College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture entitled (Molecular, Immunological, and Experimental Study of Toxoplasmosis Parasite Infection in Immunosuppressed Patients)
The lecture presented by the researcher (Sahar Muhammad Ali) included
Toxoplasma gondii is the causative agent of toxoplasmosis. In this study, the parasite was isolated from chopped diaphragm muscles from naturally infected sheep, goats and cows in Basrah Governorate. No significant differences were recorded between injuries in the three animal samples below the probability level (p≤ 0.05), as the percentage of infection was the highest in goats (80%) and the lowest (59%) in sheep. The Nested Polymerase chain reaction technique was used using primers Specific nested PCR for genetic detection of the parasite in sheep.
The reading of the phylogenetic tree showed that the sheep sample was identical with the main branch of the kinship tree carrying the sequence MW233648.1 in the World Gene Bank with the blood sample in Iran and the meat sample in Mexico, while the goat sample matched with the main branch of the genetic tree carrying the sequence MZ717192.
The current study dealt with investigating the spread of the parasite in dialysis patients, as this study aimed to evaluate toxoplasmosis in patients undergoing dialysis. The infection rate was recorded (29.1%). Some factors that may affect the prevalence of infection such as age, gender and region were studied.
The DNA sequences were studied in this study to determine the nitrogenous base sequences of the DNA of the parasite T. gondii, as well as to read the evolutionary tree of these samples and make a comparison between them.
The parasite T. was serologically investigated. gondii for neonatal women with previous miscarriages by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The percentages of seroprevalence were (41.4 %) for IgG antibodies and not recorded for IgM antibodies. The phylogenetic tree reading showed that the sample of naturally born women matched with the main branch of the kinship tree carrying the sequence MZ717187, MZ717188, MZ717190, MZ717190, MZ717191 in the genebank Global.
It was concluded from the current study that eating undercooked goat, sheep and beef meat is one of the important sources of toxoplasmosis infection in Basrah.
