Summary
In this paper, the effect of central bonds on the molecular shape and liquid crystalline characteristics of two chains of aromatic compounds was studied, group A included by containing central azo-ester bonds, azo-ester and azomethine-ester, while group B was characterized by containing central bonds. The central compounds are azomethine, azomethine-ether, heterocyclic ring, and azomethine-methylene. The structures of the prepared compounds in groups A and B were confirmed using spectroscopic techniques, for example (proton nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared). . Also, the liquid crystalline properties and the nature of the liquid crystal form were studied by polarization optical microscopy (POM) with a heating stage and thermal analysis technique to know by using differential thermal scanning (DSC) to know the thermal ranges of the prepared compounds in both groups A and B in order to verify the effect of different bonds The centrality on the properties and the liquid crystal form of the prepared compounds. The results prove that changing the central bonds has a very significant effect on the shape, phase type and liquid crystal properties. Where the prepared compounds of group (A) showed a liquid crystal phase of type Smectic with different temperature ranges, while the compounds prepared of group (A) showed liquid crystal phase of type Nematic.
