The Rehabilitation and Follow-up Unit at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, in cooperation with the Department of Life Sciences, held an awareness seminar entitled "Combating Violent Extremism: Every Individual's Responsibility" on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, as part of the college's commemoration of the International Day for Countering Violent Extremism. The seminar featured presentations by Lieutenant Colonel Muntadhar Kadhim Ni'ma from the Community Policing Department and Dr. Khawla Hassan Hammoud from the College of Education for Human Sciences. The seminar aimed to clarify that acts of terrorism and violent extremism cannot be prevented or combated through repressive measures alone. Rather, a comprehensive approach is needed, one that engages the entire community, respects human rights, and considers humanitarian factors. Combating violent extremism is a shared responsibility that falls on every individual and the entire community, extending beyond the responsibilities of governments and security agencies to include families, educational institutions, the media, and civil society. This involves raising awareness, promoting tolerance, and changing discourse. Confronting extremism requires integrated preventive, educational, and social efforts to support individuals and prevent their drift towards violence, particularly through the role of families and educational institutions in building well-rounded personalities.
