University of Basrah hosts the National Olympiad for Scientific Projects (INPO)

On Sunday, December 21, 2025, the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basra hosted the 22nd National Science Projects Olympiad (INPO) in Iraq. The event, organized by the Ishik Schools in Basra Governorate, was attended by the Assistant Director of Education for Basra, the Director General of the Ishik Schools in Basra, a number of academics and specialists, and saw wide participation from middle and high school students.

The festival was inaugurated by the Dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences, Professor Dr. Majid Mohammed Jassim, who emphasized in his opening remarks the importance of supporting scientific initiatives that contribute to developing students' scientific and research thinking skills, and of strengthening effective partnerships between educational institutions and universities, in line with the demands of scientific and technological advancement.

The National Science Projects Olympiad (INPO) is an annual scientific competition that aims to stimulate scientific and creative thinking, develop students' abilities in scientific research, creativity, critical analysis, and the systematic formulation and writing of ideas, as well as prepare them to face future challenges. The event featured 79 scientific projects presented by 128 students from schools in Ishik, Basra Governorate, as well as schools for gifted, talented, and high-achieving students. The projects were evaluated by specialized scientific committees comprised of professors from the University of Basra, according to rigorous scientific criteria including originality, innovation, methodology, and applicability.

The scientific projects showcased covered a wide range of fields, including health, energy, mathematics, technology, science, the environment, and design, and were presented to expert judging panels and guests from academic and educational institutions
