
The College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a scientific symposium entitled "Astronomy and Its Stages of Development" for students of the Physics Department. The symposium, delivered by M.M. Rana Aziz and M.M. W. Sahira Nabil, in cooperation with the Center for Development and Continuing Education, covered topics in astronomy from the beginning of the Sumerian civilization and their reliance on astronomy for agriculture, worship, and facilitating their daily lives, through the Nile Valley civilization. It also highlighted the role of the Arabs before Islam and during the Islamic era in the significant development of astronomy, the role of the Abbasid caliphs and their great interest in observatories and scientists, and the important role of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (peace be upon him), who represented one of the most prominent astronomers and astronomers, and who formulated theories about the movement of the Earth, stars, and light.
The symposium also highlighted the importance of science among the Arabs, which contributed to many scientific achievements and the advancement of civilization, particularly in the field of astronomy. It also highlighted the role of Arab scholars, including al-Battani, al-Biruni, Ibn Rushd, al-Qazwini, and others. The symposium was held in Al-Hassan Ibn Al-Haytham Hall in the Physics Department on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at nine o'clock in the morning
