University of Basrah organizes a dialogue seminar on (Women's Freedom from an Islamic Perspective)

The College of Education for Pure Sciences and the Women's Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Center for Development and Continuing Education, organized a dialogue seminar on "Women's Freedom from an Islamic Perspective." The seminar, moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Zainab Hamza Abbas, and attended by a group of faculty members, addressed the concept of freedom in Islam and drew a comparison between the absolute freedom advocated by the West and the committed freedom advocated by Islam. A comparison was also made between women's rights in the past and the present, highlighting how Islam preserved women as a pillar of society and viewed them with honor and pride. Islam granted women numerous rights, such as the right to own property, learn, inherit, work, and conduct their affairs. Islam equated women with men in several areas, and, more importantly, granted women freedom after it had been deprived of them over time. The seminar also addressed allegations that Islam imposed restrictions on women. Finally, it opened the door for students to ask and answer questions regarding women's freedom
