Basra University organizes a scientific lecture on environmental and physiological factors affecting hair loss in women in Basra Governorate / Iraq

The Department of Biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basra organized a scientific lecture entitled (Environmental and Physiological Factors Affecting Hair Loss in Women in Basra Governorate / Iraq) with the participation of a postgraduate student, Jabbar Breesem Karim
Hair loss is a common skin disease that affects both females and males alike of all ages, and for several centuries, hair has been and still is the most important sign of beauty for women, so healthy hair is a sign of health, beauty and strength of character for women.
The present study was designed to identify some environmental and physiological causes that affect hair loss in women in Basra Governorate. 67 out of 88 volunteers suffering from hair loss participated in this study, and 21 healthy women as a control group, the study was conducted from September 2019 to January 2020
The study concluded
1. The most common type of anemia in women with hair loss is iron deficiency anemia

2- The psychological state plays an important role in inducing hair loss.
3- Increased level of oxidative stress due to high levels of pollution and disturbance of mental state.
4- Heavy metal levels in the water used to wash hair did not show a clear effect on hair loss, except for lithium.
5- Cadmium, cobalt, lead and selenium are among the most important heavy elements accumulated in hair, which showed a clear induction of hair loss in women in Basra Governorate.
6- Heavy pollution has a clear effect on the level of nutrients and hormones in the body, which may contribute significantly to inducing hair loss in women.
7- The most common type of hair loss in women in Basra Governorate is the Telogen (effluvium) type.
