Basra University organizes a scientific lecture entitled (Corrosion in Oil Facilities)

The College of Education for Pure Sciences, Department of Chemistry, organized a scientific lecture entitled “Corrosion in Oil Facilities”
The lecture presented by the student (Saba Hussein Ali) included the causes and types of corrosion, as it is classified according to the corrosive medium into wet corrosion and dry corrosion, according to the mechanics of the corrosion process, to chemical corrosion and electrochemical corrosion, and according to the appearance of the corroded metal to general corrosion and local corrosion. The resistance of metals and alloys can be improved by many means, including methods of design, coverage and cathodic protection. It is considered the best way to protect metal structures from corrosion, as well as the use of inhibitors to reduce or reduce the rate of corrosion and thus reduce corrosion damage to the external appearance and loss of safety and economic impact where corrosion problems have received great attention In many developed and developing countries, where it consumes huge funds, it is divided into direct costs and indirect costs. The lecture included statistics of losses as a result of erosion processes.
The purpose of the lecture
The lecture aims to identify corrosion and its types in oil installations, its damage to the environment and safety, and its economic impact on the country unless the necessary preventive measures are taken to reduce or reduce the rate of corrosion to prevent the leakage of hazardous materials, to save lives, and to preserve facilities from sudden collapses.
