The University of Basrah organizes a scientific lecture on capacity building for Iraqi university staff and its role in achieving sustainable development.

The Department of Mathematics at the College of Education for Pure Sciences organized a scientific lecture on capacity building for Iraqi university personnel and its role in achieving sustainable development.
The lecture, presented by Assistant Professor Amira Jaber Muhaisen, highlighted the pivotal role that nations and societies play in the educational process for future generations and in scientific research. This role is shaped by the level of professionalism and advancement achieved in these fields, the constraints imposed on their management bodies, and the extent to which new generations are encouraged to acquire knowledge, master their disciplines, and explore emerging issues. Sustainable development indicators reflect a nation's success in achieving sustainable development; they primarily assess a country's status using quantifiable metrics that allow for international comparisons. Monitoring changes and trends in these indicators—whether showing progress or regression—reveals the nature of national policies: whether a country is on the right track toward sustainable development or remains slow and hesitant, a situation observed in most nations worldwide. This study aims to provide a realistic assessment of capacity building for Iraqi university personnel and to demonstrate its fundamental role in enhancing performance quality—both generally and within higher education specifically—thereby fostering sustainable development across Iraqi universities
