The University of Basrah continues to chart its new academic path during the third session of its council, held in both morning and evening segments.

The University of Basrah Council held its third session for the 2026–2027 academic year, chaired by Dr. Aqeel Fadhil Al-Dahan and attended by his assistants for scientific and administrative affairs, the Council Secretary, and its members, to discuss administrative, academic, and organizational agenda items.

The session included the ratification of the previous meeting's minutes and a review of Ministry directives regarding Basrah University Hospital, as well as directives from the University President.

Regarding undergraduate studies, the Council discussed the implementation of the Bologna Process and considered tuition fee reductions for top-ranking students in evening study programs, in consultation with the Evening Study Supervisory Committee.

In the realm of postgraduate studies, the Council deliberated on granting exceptional extensions to contract-based students, amending the proposed Master’s and PhD study plans for the 2026–2027 academic year, and establishing mechanisms for publishing scientific research.

The Council also considered introducing evening study programs in certain colleges and reviewed the report by the Director of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department. This report covered the approval of the university’s vision, mission, and objectives; the formation of a committee to update the University of Basrah’s strategic plan; and the adoption of quality guidelines.
