The University of Basrah has advanced in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, securing 12th place nationally out of 92 participating Iraqi universities and 372nd place globally out of 1,745 participating institutions.

This progress reflects the university's ongoing efforts to improve its performance regarding sustainability and campus environment indicators. Compared to the previous year, the rankings show an improvement of two places nationally, 24 places in Asia, and 61 places globally.

University of Basrah President Dr. Aqeel Fadhil Al-Dahan commended the efforts of the rankings team and all university departments and units that contributed to this achievement. He emphasized the importance of continuing to develop sustainability metrics and enhance environmental practices across the university, thereby solidifying the University of Basrah’s standing and presence at local, regional, and international levels.

Al-Dahan congratulated the entire university community—faculty, staff, and students—on this achievement, expressing his hope for continued progress in future rankings and milestones.
