The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences examined a master's thesis titled "Synthesis and Biological Activity Study of Certain Heterocyclic Compounds."
The thesis, presented by researcher Israa Majeed Yaqoub Yousef, focused on designing and synthesizing a new series of hybrid heterocyclic organic compounds combining coumarin and pyridine moieties, given the significant pharmacological and medicinal importance of both compounds in the medical field. The new derivatives were successfully synthesized, and their chemical structures were characterized using state-of-the-art spectroscopic methods.
Their biological activity was also evaluated; laboratory tests demonstrated that the synthesized compounds possess high inhibitory activity against bacteria, highlighting their potential as promising candidates for the development of new antibiotics.
The thesis included computational theoretical calculations to study the molecular stability, electronic distribution, and physicochemical properties of the compounds.
Molecular docking simulations confirmed a strong affinity and binding strength between the synthesized compounds and the active sites of the targeted bacterial proteins, thereby accurately explaining their biological mechanism of action.
This study contributes to scientific efforts aimed at developing modern, effective pharmaceutical compounds to combat the problem of bacterial resistance to common antibiotics
