The University of Basrah examines a master's thesis on "A Study of the Thermoluminescence and Nonlinear Optical Properties of Himalayan Black Salt."

The Department of Physics at the College of Education for Pure Sciences examined a master's thesis titled "A Study of the Thermoluminescence and Nonlinear Optical Properties of Himalayan Black Salt."
The thesis, presented by researcher Mohammed Hassan Nouri Abdullah, investigated the material's thermoluminescence properties and its potential application in radiation dosimetry, alongside an analysis of its nonlinear optical properties using the Z-scan technique.
The results revealed two thermoluminescence peaks at temperatures of approximately 70°C and 134.5°C, with a linear relationship observed between luminescence intensity and radiation dose within the 20–120 rad/min range; the activation energy for the traps ranged from 0.67 to 0.89 eV.
Optical results indicated an increase in both the nonlinear refractive index and the nonlinear absorption coefficient as the material's concentration increased, with the highest nonlinear refractive index reaching 0.58 × 10⁻⁷ at a concentration of 3 mM. Furthermore, the material demonstrated promising characteristics for optical limiting and nonlinear optical applications.
These findings suggest that Himalayan black salt could be utilized in applications related to radiation dosimetry and nonlinear optics
