University of Basra is investigating a master's thesis on (Using microwaves to prepare and evaluate the biological activity of Schiff pyrazole thiosimicarbazone bases as anticancer agents).

The College of Education for Pure Sciences, Department of Chemistry, reviewed a master's thesis on the use of microwaves to prepare and evaluate the biological activity of pyrazole-thiosemic carbazole Schif bases as anticancer agents.

The thesis, submitted by researcher Aseel Ghanem Hannoun, aimed to:

Prepare hydrazone compounds by reacting phenylhydrazine and 4-chlorophenylhydrazine with a group of acetophenone substituents.

Introduce a formalin group to the hydrazone compounds using the Wilsmeyer-Hack reagent.

Prepare new Schif bases derived from the Wilsmeyer-Hack aldehyde (pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde) with thiosemic carbazide using microwave technology.

Spectroscopic characterization of the prepared compounds using infrared spectroscopy, proton and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. Biological evaluation of novel hybrid chemical compounds derived from hydrazone and Schiff bases, exploring their efficacy as antitumor agents.

Studying the relationship between structural and biological activity to determine how altering the position of substituent groups in the final structure of the synthesized compounds enhances their inhibitory activity and cytotoxicity against the lung cancer cell line AS49 and the breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 using the MTT method.

The study included the preparation and characterization of novel Schiff base compounds derived from thiosimecarbazide using chemical microwave as part of a green chemistry approach. The prepared compounds were characterized using organic diagnostic techniques including FT-IR spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1HNMR), carbon-13C NMR, and mass spectrometry. The biological activity of the prepared compounds was also assessed by examining them against lung and breast cancer cells. The results obtained, based on the IC50 value, indicate that some compounds exhibit good to moderate activity against breast and lung cancer cell lines.
