The Computer Science Department at the College of Education for Pure Sciences participated with three innovative projects in the preliminary rounds of the National University Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Applications Championship (NURAI 2026), held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the University of Basra – Al-Sayyab Hall, under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Participating Projects and Their Results:
- Project 1: Intelligent System for Motor Rehabilitation (RehabAI) – Supervised by Professor Dr. Hamed Ali Abdul-Asadi, and presented by students Noor Ali Jakhim, Mohammed Adnan Sayhood, and Banin Nizar Abdul-Hussein. It received a distinction grade, and the research was accepted for presentation at the IEEE GPECOM 2026 conference in Italy.
- Project 2: Water Quality Monitoring Using Drones – Supervised by Professor Dr. Hamed Ali Abdul-Asadi, and presented by students Murtadha Haider Abdul-Ridha, Fatima Kadhim Oraibi, and Adyan Murtadha Mohammed. It received a distinction grade, and the research was accepted for presentation at the CML 2026 conference in India, published by Springer.
- The third project: The Smart Incubator – supervised by Ms. Hind Muslim Jassim and presented by student Ismail Mahdi Saleh. It received a very good grade.
With these outstanding results, the participating teams from the Computer Science Department qualified for the final judging stage of the competition. They will travel to the American University in Baghdad (AUIB) to complete the final stage, which will bring together the best student projects from various Iraqi universities to compete for the national championship titles.
This achievement confirms the College of Education for Pure Sciences' leading role in supporting technological innovation and the ability of its students to compete locally and internationally in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics
