University of Basra is reviewing a doctoral dissertation on the preparation and characterization of copolymers and the study of emulsion polymerization of polyvinyl acetate.

The College of Education for Pure Sciences, Department of Chemistry, reviewed a doctoral dissertation on "Preparation and Characterization of Copolymers and Study of Polyvinyl Acetate Emulsion Polymerization." The dissertation, submitted by researcher Faraq Arif Obaid, included the preparation of seven copolymers using appropriate polymerization methods. These prepared polymers were characterized using various techniques, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), elemental analysis (C, H, N), and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (HNMR). The properties of these prepared materials were then evaluated by calculating the critical micelle concentration (CMC) using electrical conductivity. Furthermore, the applications of these materials were determined by calculating the hydrophilic-lipophilic ratio (HLB), a crucial factor in their suitability as emulsifiers or surfactants with pharmaceutical and industrial applications.

Thermal analyses were conducted to determine the stability and thermal transfer temperatures using thermogravimetric decomposition (TGA) and differential calorimetry (DSC).

Subsequently, the emulsion polymerization of polyvinyl acetate with these polymers was studied to determine their particle size distribution and evaluate them as nanoemulsions with potential applications in various pharmaceutical, industrial, and electronic fields.

These emulsions were characterized using several advanced techniques to determine their particle nature and structural properties, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The combined results showed that the prepared emulsions possess suitable structural and thermal properties, as well as precise nanoscale characteristics, making them suitable for numerous applications in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, drug delivery systems, electronic sensing systems, coatings, and many other fields
