University of Basrah ranked first in Iraq in the WURI World Innovation Ranking for 2025.

In a new achievement to be added to its academic and scientific record, the University of Basra topped Iraqi universities in the WURI World Innovation Ranking for 2025, ranking (263) globally out of 400 universities included in the ranking, surpassing both the Middle Technical University and the University of Babylon.
The WURI ranking is one of the most important rankings for measuring the innovative performance and societal impact of universities around the world. It focuses on qualitative criteria such as innovation in education, entrepreneurship, ethical values, sustainability, and digital transformation.
In this context, the President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, expressed his pride in this achievement, saying, "This progress achieved by the University of Basra in the WURI World Ranking is the result of the collective effort of the university team of faculty, researchers, and students, who strive daily to establish an academic environment that stimulates innovation and community service. This ranking represents an incentive to continue to excel and compete in international forums." It's worth noting that the three Iraqi universities featured in this year's ranking are:
University of Basra (ranked 263 globally)
Middle Technical University (ranked 301-350)
University of Babylon (ranked 353)
It's worth noting that the WURI ranking is issued annually by Hanseong University in Korea, in cooperation with several international academic institutions. It focuses on universities' ability to provide innovative and interactive educational solutions that respond to societal challenges
