
The College of Education for Pure Sciences, in cooperation with the Department of Computer Science, held a workshop as part of the anti-drug campaign entitled "Repercussions of Drug Addiction: Causes and Solutions" on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. The workshop covered several topics. The first topic: The workshop, moderated by Assistant Professor Yasser Amer Hassan, Professor of Private Law at the University of Basrah, College of Law, explained several legal issues related to drug possession and abuse, as well as criminal cases related to drug addiction. He also clarified sections of the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017. The second topic: Applied: Designing an electronic program to track and monitor preventive programs for drug users. Student Muhammad Adnan Sahyoud, fourth year, Department of Computer Science, explained his applied research project, which aims to develop an integrated program within the digital transformation mechanism for data at drug addiction treatment centers. This program creates a basic database with four topics, including users, drug type, treatment, duration of addiction, and recovery from addiction. This program can be invested in the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Interior. The project is supervised by Professor Dr. Hamed Ali Abdul Asadi, Head of the Computer Science Department
The third axis, Biology, included drug testing of various types, which many community, medical, sports, and criminal organizations require.
The sources of plant-based drugs, narcotic fungi, and the use of pesticides were also mentioned as a type of dangerous drug that threatens the lives of users
