
The College of Education for Pure Sciences, Department of Chemistry, in cooperation with the Center for Development and Continuing Education, organized a workshop entitled "Drugs, Their Dangers and Chemistry." The workshop, delivered by Assistant Professor Jassim Mohammed Saleh Al-Shawi and a group of faculty members, included:
An introduction to drugs and addiction; an introduction to international drug classifications; an introduction to the psychological and social harms of drugs and their risks to the strength of the family's social fabric; an introduction to the environmental damage (pollution) caused by drug cultivation and manufacturing; an introduction to the chemical composition and properties of drugs; and an introduction to the legal penalties for drug users and dealers.
The workshop was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Majid Mohammed Jassim, and the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. The workshop was attended by a group of professors from the department and graduate students, and took place in the Chemistry Department Council Hall. A discussion took place between the lecturers and professors present about the dangers of the drug scourge. The workshop organizers recommended the need to continue organizing such events for the purpose of guidance and awareness of the social, health, environmental and economic risks of drugs and the implementation of laws that limit drug use and trafficking
