Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basrah, Professor Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kazem, an awareness symposium is organized entitled (Drugs and their Effects on Society)

The College of Education for Pure Sciences organized an awareness symposium on drugs and their effects on society in cooperation with the University Follow-up Division at the college and the Narcotics Control Directorate in Basra.
The lecture was moderated by Muhannad Hassan Asaad, Director of Relations and Media of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control Directorate in Basra, and a number of members of the Directorate. The symposium highlighted several topics.
The first axis: Definition of drugs and emphasis on combating them socially.
The second axis: introducing the legal articles stipulated in Iraqi law (Article 40, Article 27, and Article 28) regarding drug trafficking and drug abuse.
The third axis: Contributing to reporting drug users so that they can be rehabilitated therapeutically and psychologically within addiction treatment centers and by calling the hotline 178.
The fourth axis is the necessity of the university administration, its professors and students, working together with state institutions for the purpose of raising awareness of the danger of drugs, as it is a war that claims lives and leaves them mentally disabled, which exhausts their families and society.
Many topics related to drugs were discussed by answering students’ questions.
