The College of Education for Pure Sciences, Department of Life Sciences, discussed a master’s thesis on the diagnosis of some species of Insecta (Isoptera) and the efficiency of some plant extracts in killing workers of the species Microcerotermes diversus silvestri, 1920 in Basra Governorate.
The thesis submitted by the researcher (Asyad Nasser Saleh Al-Dhahi) included a survey of species belonging to the termite order (termites) in some areas of Basra.

There are large numbers of earth insects in residential areas, agricultural lands, and desert areas in Basra Governorate, but there is not a large diversity of them.
Microcerotermes diversus is the most widespread species of earthworm in Basra Governorate. Extracts of pepper, conocarpus, sweet seed, thyme and ginger contain effective chemical compounds that led to the death of the insect.
