The College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basrah organized a lecture on azo dyes and their applications
The lecture moderated by the researcher (Ali Kamel Mohsen) included
Learn about azo dyes and a brief history of azo dyes and their classifications.
Preparation of azo dyes, their reaction mechanism, methods of preparation, how to diagnose them using several techniques.
Chemical properties of azo dyes.
Introducing the importance of azo dye applications in several areas, including
In the industrial field (dyes for textiles, as cosmetics, as dyes for food and medicines)
And the medical field (anti-bacterial and anti-fungal as well as anti-cancer, and as sterile materials) as well as metallurgical indicators and acid-base indicators and as a corrosion inhibitor (alloys and metals).
Lecture objectives
The panel discussion aims to introduce the central role of aromatic azo dyes in many basic and applied research over the course of nearly two centuries, in which the field of their synthesis, development and use witnessed many achievements, and they became present in many aspects of our lives, starting from textiles, cosmetics, food and medicine to field of energy and photonics. Despite their long history, these compounds continue to arouse academic interest, while they are mass-produced for industrial purposes, as well as continue to expand in their new high-tech applications. The most recent application areas are in the field of pharmacology, biodegradable materials and drug delivery materials. All this is due to the structural diversity and adaptive properties of aromatic dyes that continue to inspire and develop new research directions, knowledge of azo dyes, their classification, characterization, use as pharmaceuticals, antibacterial and antifungal agents, as corrosion inhibitors, as metallurgical markers, and as acid-base markers.
