The College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basrah  organized a lecture on the biological activity of isolated and purified alkaloid compounds from some plants
The lecture presented by (Mona Abdul-Muttalib Yahya) included the isolation and purification of two types of alkaloid compounds from two types of medicinal plants, the purified colchicine compound from the leaves of the brocade plant Calotropis procera and the purified methoxy phenyl oxime from the Capris plant Conocarpus lancifolius, where the two compounds showed selective activity against cancer cells. The compound MPO showed effectiveness against types of pathogenic bacteria.
The two compounds also showed effectiveness as high antioxidant compounds
